Supporting a global endeavor to address local poverty, the City Government of Ligao, under the leadership of Mayor Patricia-Gonzalez-Alsua, thru the City Social Welfare and Development Office, launched the Sustainable Development Goals – Family-based Actions for Children and Their Environs in the Slums (SDG-FACES) Project on 05 December 2017 at the SP Session Hall, Ligao City Hall, Ligao City.
The SDG-FACES focuses on empowering mothers and women-headed households, living in slums to take the lead in managing the Family SDG Covenant. The said project is formerly dubbed as Millennium Development Goals – Family-based Actions for Children and Their Environs in the Slums (MDG-FACES), wherein poverty eradication is brought to the grassroots by the Local Government Academy (LGA), the training arm of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
It was the United Nations (UN) who have enhanced and approved the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and allowed communities to develop methods that work best for them. Thus, LGUs must take an active role in policy development and implementation of the project.
