The organic farmers of Amtic, Ligao City till their land and ready their shovels in preparation for the Albay Family-based Food Production Program project.

A project of the provincial government, the AFBFPP is a contest among the barangays of 18 municipalities and 3 cities of Albay. Running from January to December 2017, communal gardens, which must be at least 500 sq meters, are judged every quarter. A cash prize of Php 50,000.00 will be given to the winner, and Php 30,000.00 and Php 20,000.00 will be given to the second and third placers, respectively.

A consolation price of Php 2000.00 are given to all the barangays.

The project will also award the cleanest and greenest municipality/city with a cash prize of Php 100,000.00. Municipalities/cities who ranked second and third will receive Php 75,000.00 and Php 50,000.00, respectively.

Mr. Dexter Mendoza, OIC City Agriculturist, thinks that Ligao City has a high chance of being declared as the cleanest and greenest city because of the city’s efforts in solid waste management.

The strict implementation of city’s Anti-Plastic Ordinance, which prohibits the use of all kinds of plastic on dry goods, is also one of the actions taken by the city to achieve a greener environment.
