Ligao, headed by Mayor Patricia Gonzalez –Alsua, is awarded as the ONLY CITY IN THE BICOL REGION bagging the 2016 Rice Achievers Award on 23 May 2017 at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City.
The Department of Agriculture conferred the trophy and the one-million peso cash to the City Government of Ligao, through the City Agriculture Office, as recognition to the contribution of the city on the country’s rice output hike. The cash prize will be used to further enhance the rice production in the City through its innovative and worthy projects.
The Awarding Ceremony is attended by Vice-Mayor Sherwin Quising and OIC City Agriculturist Dexter Mendoza together with the Agricultural Technologists in-charge of rice production. The ceremony is followed by a courtesy call with the supportive Congressman of the 3rd District of Albay – Hon. Fernando V. Gonzalez.
The Rice Achievers’ Awards intends to recognize the contributions of highly performing provinces, municipalities/cities, irrigators’ associations, small water impounding system, and agricultural extension workers in the national food self-sufficiency program.
